About Mumbai

Mumbai, formerly Bombay, is Maharashtra's capital on the Konkan coast with a deep harbor. Recognized as an alpha world city since 2008, it's India's wealthiest, with numerous millionaires and billionaires. Originally seven islands inhabited by the Koli people, Mumbai saw various rulers before becoming a major seaport by 1845 through the Hornby Vellard project. It experienced significant economic growth and became central to India's independence movement. Post-independence, Mumbai transitioned to the capital of Maharashtra in 1960, solidifying its status as a hub of cultural, economic, and political importance in India.
